Royal Clarke has a gift for capturing the very essence of beloved pets and creates the portraits from a photograph. He uses acrylic paints.  When I asked him about his process, he explained that he lives with the photograph for a week or two, with a view to connecting with the animal. He then proceeds to gradually paint the portrait over a couple of weeks. The result is an extraordinary likeness.
